Rebuilding Sierra Leone
In 1991, Sierra Leone exploded in a civil war that would last a decade. Initiated by a desire to overthrow the corrupt Sierra Leonean government, it soon devolved into a bloody conflict in which participants were fighting for their lives.
In 2002, the civil war ended with the signing of peace accords. Since then, the United Nation's humanitarian and development agencies have coordinated numerous initiatives to aid in the reconstruction of Sierra Leone. Click on the links below to learn more about the agencies and programs.
