SAMPLE TEXT FOR LETTER TO BUSINESS REQUESTING DONATION

I hope that you will agree to help me raise funds to send women living in war-ravaged Somalia to college. Your donation of [DONATION REQUEST] will facilitate the fundraising event that I am organizing at [EVENT LOCATION] on [DATE AND TIME]. I expect to have [APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF ATTENDEES] attendees.
In appreciation of your donation, we are happy to distribute your business cards to event attendees and recognize your contribution in the evening’s program.
Two years ago, a number of Somali women were recruited into the journalism program at Puntland State University in Somalia. Unfortunately, after a few months, virtually all the women were forced to drop out because they could not afford tuition. For each $1,000 that we raise, a Somali woman will be able to attend classes for an entire year at one of six Somali universities.
Funds raised at my event will be given to the U.S. Committee for the UN Development Program (UNDP-USA). UNDP-USA will aggregate donations made here in the United States and grant them to the United Nations in Somalia, who administer this exciting and worthwhile scholarship program.
