Do you belong to an organization or work for a business that might like to partner with the Somali Women’s Scholarship Fund?

U.S. partners help to spread the word and raise funds for the Somali Women’s Scholarship Fund in their unique ways. Below we highlight two of our current partnerships.

Won’t you help us add to our list? Please contact partnerships@undp-usa.org to discuss becoming a Somali Women’s Scholarship Fund U.S. partner.

Collaborate!

Link Up, a Dartmouth College student mentorship program, has adopted the Somali Women’s Scholarship Fund for their 2008 charity. In May, they partnered with Charity Denim, an organization which donates designer jeans to fundraising events to raise over $1,200 for the Somali Women’s Scholarship Fund. That is enough to send more than one woman to college for a year… truly fashion fighting poverty!

Be a Trendsetter!

Barlin Ali is the author of the only English language Somali cookbook, Somali Cuisine. In addition to contributing her time and talent by offering cooking presentations at Somali Women’s Scholarship Fund events, Ms. Ali has pledged to donate a portion of her profit from her book.

UNDP-USA Executive Director Visits Somalia

Elizabeth Latham, UNDP-USA Executive Director, recently returned from a visit to Somalia to see some of the work that UNDP is engaged in.

"I was amazed and impressed with the hopefulness of the people that I met during my stay in Somalia. Somalia is a conservative Muslim nation and I was impressed to see that in some areas women are being empowered, thanks to investments in education. For example, the women in this photo rose to the top of their class and, despite many obstacles, decided to join the first ever female police unit."
