African Virtual University (AVU) is the leading distance learning university in Africa providing the tools for delivery of curriculum and engaging professors for the development and teaching of the courses.
Somali Family Services provides a link into the Somali Diaspora community and, based on their pilot program for 4 year scholarships, has expertise in cultivating donors for scholarship programs. The long term project is an extension of their current "sister university" program between Minneapolis Community Technical College and Puntland State University.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has been active in Somalia in developing the capacities of Somali Universities to offer distance learning courses with the aim of improving skills and capacity of Somalis. UNDP Somalia is currently funding a pilot scholarship program for these certificate courses, and these funds will run out at the end of 2007. UNDP has engaged UNDP-USA to ensure that funding can continue for these programs in the short term. UNDP will be the implementer of the educational programs.
U.S. Committee for UNDP is a group of Americans dedicated to educating Americans about the work of UNDP and providing support to specific UNDP programs.
